The Swedish bobbin winder with brass gearing is made in Sweden and comes in two spindle diameters.

  • No. 158B with spindle diameter of 6.5 – 8.5 mm (thicker spindle and ideal for plastic and wooden bobbins) - see more information below.
  • No. 62M with spindle diameter of 4 – 5.5 mm (thinner spindle and ideal for paper quills) - see more information below.

The thicker 158B version of the Swedish bobbin winder can wind a variety of plastic or wooden bobbins from various manufacturers. It has a built-in screw clamp that mounts it to a tabletop, shelf, or counter, with the shaft running parallel to the edge of the surface. The crank handle mounts on the front of the winder and turns a worm gear, which turns the shaft. The motion is fast and even, allowing you to wind dense, uniform bobbins quickly.  The shaft tapers slightly, allowing for openings of various sizes on the bobbins, ranging from a diameter of approximately 1/4" at the tip to just under 5/16" at the widest point.

This bobbin winder accepts:

  • Leclerc, Schacht, and Harrisville Designs wooden bobbins
  • Schacht, Bluster Bay, and Leclerc pirns
  • Leclerc plastic spools (but not cardboard spools)
  • Tapered Bluster Bay pirns

The thinner version No. 62M has a spindle diameter of 4 – 5.5 mm winder is made to wind the paper or cardboard quills that have a very small shaft opening. The shaft tapers slightly, allowing for some variation in the quill diameter. At the tip, the diameter of the shaft is approximately 1/8"; at the widest point, it is approximately 3/16".   This thin winder can also be used with a lace bobbin adaptor to wind thin embroidery lace onto lace bobbins.
