So what’s different about this inkle loom?
Lojan have developed the loom in collaboration with Marieke Kranenburg. It is designed to be used from both sides; it can be easily assembled for either left-handed or right-handed weavers! The adjustable bar allows you to set a warp length of 1 metre for short bands, or the warp can be up to 2.65 metres for longer weaves. The sturdy 25mm diameter, 14cm long bars allow for wide band weaving, and the 18mm diameter heddle rod can be tied up with string or 16cm (160/12) Texsolv heddles. All the bars have end caps to help prevent the warp threads from slipping off.
Each Inkle Loom comes with a durable plastic shuttle that has its own Velcro storage loop attached to the loom, caps for each of the bars to help prevent the warp and heddles from slipping off, a screwdriver, a table clamp, instructions for setting up, plus a sample pattern to get you started.
Tablet Weaving on the Lojan Inkle Loom
The very clever people at Lojan have also designed the inkle loom to allow for tablet weaving. Unscrew any of the rods you don’t need and attach the tablet weaving warp to a rod, thread on the tablet weaving card, and tie up the warp. The optional tablet weaving board can be screwed onto the loom and used as a rest for the tablet weaving cards to prevent accidental turning. Made from Beech laminated wood and bamboo, this item is left in the natural wood so that you can choose your finish. Make a statement and stain the wood any colour you like, or bring out the natural grain of the wood by applying Superior Danish Oil or wax – the options are endless.
