Rubia cordfolia commonly known as Indian Madder produces a variety of red colours including orange, reds, brick red, blood red and fiery reds.
Generally the colour depends on the environmental and climatic conditions of where the madder plant is growing. The soil mineral content, age is also important. When using madder, the softness of the water used for the dye bath, the temperature and the amount of madder extract used will also influence the intensity of colour achieved.
Due to its concentration, madder dye extract can be used at a level of 5% which is much lower than other forms of dye powder. Higher or lower amounts can be used to achieve differing shades of colour.
Free of any chemicals or processing aids for extraction.
