This naturally very chunky and coarse, wild & organic tussar yarn is a truly artisan yarn, hand spun from wild undyed silk from the cocoons of the silkworm belonging to the moth genus Antheraea.
This silk has a rich deep colour and thick bulky texture ideal for unique fibre arts and weaving projects really bringing individuality and elegance to your fibre project.
Due to the wildness, this silk has an earthy smell. This silk softens and the earthiness fades with washing and with usage. It has a naturally brown rustic colour which comes from the natural tannins occurring in the leaves of the trees the silkworm eats such as Terminalia species, or Shorea robusta (Sal tree).
All of our yarns are sourced from eco-friendly, natural and sustainable sources and through your purchase, you are significantly supporting the livelihoods of the local communities who produce them.
This silk yarn is supplied in a skein of 100g as pictured.
