This lovely mix of mulberry silk noil yarn and tussar silk yarn provides fibre artists with a truly unique workable fibre with a lovely contrast of colours and texture. Mulberry silk noil yarn also called “bourette” is derived from the Bombyx silk worm that feeds on mulberry leaves. The noil is made from the shorter fibres remaining after making the higher finish spun silk. Tussar silk comes from the cocoons of the silkworm belonging to the moth genus Antheraea and is known as “Wild Silk” as the silkworms live in the wild forests belonging to the Terminalia species. Tussar silk is valued for its rich texture and deep gold coloration and is perfect for fibre arts, weaving, knitting and crochet projects bringing individuality and elegance to any fibre project. This blend comes with the best of both silks!
All of our yarns are sourced from eco-friendly, natural and sustainable sources and through your purchase, you are significantly supporting the livelihoods of the local communities who produce them.
This silk yarn is supplied in a skein of 100g
